Mary Smith a knocker-upper

28 April 2025 Leave a Comment

Introducing Mary Smith, a devoted “knocker-upper” hailing from East London in the 1930s.

With just dried peas in hand and a strong sense of duty, she earned a humble sixpence each week by launching her projectiles at the windows of slumbering workers, ensuring they got up on time to start their day.

Picture the rhythmic tap of peas against the glass, a gentle nudge to awaken amidst the hustle of the city!

In our world today that’s filled with alarms and smartphones, let’s take a moment to admire the creative methods of the past.

I wonder how would your mornings change if you had a knocker-upper at your service?

Why affirmative action (DEI) still divides South Africans.

It is a policy that has entrenched race even deeper into society, harmed growth, and after more than 30 years as an official government policy, it has outlived its purpose.
